Healthcare in Spain

Children’s health care in Spain is an important part of the health care system and includes preventive screenings, immunizations and general medical care. If parents want to live in Spain and get health care for their children, here’s how to do it:

  1. Registration with the Health Service System: Upon arrival in Spain, parents should register with the health care system. To do this, you need to go to the local health center (Centro de Salud) or clinic (Consultorio Médico) in your area of residence. There they will provide the necessary documents, such as ID cards, resident card, NIE, PADRON, etc., which will confirm the right to receive health care in the country. Once registered, the family will receive a health card, which is essential for receiving medical services.
  2. Child Registration: When it comes to health care for children , parents must also register their children with the health system. Preventive programs including periodic examinations and vaccinations are available for children. Therefore, it is advisable to go to the local medical facility and register the child, providing the necessary documents, such as the child’s ID card or passport , the child’s health booklet from Poland translated into Spanish with inscribed vaccinations that were done in Poland. Resident’s card, identity card and NIE -number of identification in Spain of the parent, and Padron certificate- which says that the family is registered in the property.
  3. Examinations and Immunizations: Children will have access to regular periodic checkups that include assessment of height, weight, general health, as well as physical and psychosocial development. Preventive programs also include mandatory vaccinations that provide protection against infectious diseases.Vaccinations are free to a greater extent than in Poland.
  4. Visits to the Doctor and Specialists: Once a child is registered in the health system, parents will be able to make appointments to see a primary care physician and, if necessary, specialists. GP appointments can be made by phone or in person at a medical facility.
